Joshua Tree National Park is harsh and full of life and color. It's beautiful in so many ways. But the Joshua tree, the namesake of the park, is projected to be extinct by the end of this century, at the hands of a rapidly warming climate. At best, around 20% of the current habitat is projected to survive the next 50 years.
The earth and its geology will still be here long after the passage of the last Joshua tree, indifferent to the comings and goings of beings that take root or tread on its surface.
